Lookout Drivers (The First Driving Experience)

It's not really like its my first time.

I've done it before.

I've driven from the supermarket to my old house with Mum's supervision (shhh, I was unlicensed at the time). And, every so often when she was bored, she'd take me way out the other side of town, and let me practice.

I fucked up completely and nearly drove the MR2 into a wall.

Even Jamie took me once, when his truck was in for the clutch issues and he got a grandma loaner car with tarten seat covers. We drove out the back of the airport for about three hours. Open road, hardly any traffic, lots of practice of watching the speed and checking the mirrors.

But that was about two years ago. And since then, nothing.

Until today.

I thought it was an innocent trip out to see our friends at Woodend. And to start with it was. The boys put new brakepads in the MR2, Tarn and I sat inside and watched an old old rerun of Dawson's Creek (it was pretty sad). Then, the Pandyr said that I should take Tarn for a drive.

Now, just to get things clear - the MR2 is his baby. He loves that car. He said I would never be allowed to drive it (let alone allowed to learn to drive in it).

Tarn needed to drive through to Rangiora to grab some groceries. So we jumped in and off we went.

I was okay - coming out the drive and turning left. I handled the right turn and onto the 70k speed limit back road - and then the 100k speed limit country road. I was okay when we hit Rangiora and drove the streets (although slowly).

But the parking lot of the supermarket? Not okay. I fucked up completely and nearly drove the MR2 into a wall - braked just in time and ended up about a cm away from it. Over a curb too. Luckily no pedestrians were harmed.

Tarn thought it was hilarious. We got out, grabbed her shopping and then she made me get back in to drive home.

Despite being scared, and consquently unable to go the entire way round a round-a-bout and having to go straight through instead of the right turn she wanted me to make, I think I did okay.

But fuck me do I need a big bloody drink now.

Please note - if you are in Christchurch next weekend, be warned, I think she's taking me again.

Hmm, I believe this problem may be with Blogger itself. Grr.

Counting Steps.

It's new job week! Hurrah!

I've spent Tuesday and Wednesday in our offices in Wellington (where I forgot my pedometer - and I went for a massive walk round the city on Tuesday night that I'm sure would of taken me to my 10k minimum). And I forgot it again today when I went to my new offices here. It's about a 20 minute walk from the bus exchange to the building, so tomorrow I will step it - I'm certain I will crack the 10k mark.

There's heaps of nice places to eat round the new job - however they are really, really expensive, so this is more motivation for me to take my lunch to work. I've already made tomorrows (leftover pasta from tea and a salad - I'll add some nuts and pick up some fruit on my way to work tomorrow).

I'm seriously considering joining Jenny Craig again. At this point I just want the weight off, then I can focus on the gym side - although if I get my act together and get me some driving lessons, then I could drive to the gym then work and do it all together. I'm sure once I get confident on the road and have my restricted license it's going to open up a whole new world for me.

So the question is, do I use the Celica that the Pandyr has in the garage as he loves his MR2 and the poor beasty is just sitting there.... or do I buy a little car like a CRX or something that isn't as much of a gas guzzler and doesn't feel like a tank when I drive it???

Decisions, decisions.

Photo blogs

I love photo blogs. There are some truly talented people out there. Trees and fog and sunsets and sunrises and animals and random nature thingys (thats the technical term for flora and fauna and stuff). I wish I had the talent to see those small things of beauty and then show the world.

Instead, I am slightly obsessed with mullets. I don't know why - but there's something about the old rock and roll mullet that just sings to me.... as long as I don't have to touch it of course.

I think once a month I might have to do the mullet photo file. Obviously that gem down there (scroll people, scroll!) will be January's primo mullet (pronounced mule-ay)

Not sure how I'm going to top that in February, but I might have to start walking around with a camera.

Lookout Drivers.

Today, after 15 years of blathering, I actually went and sat the written exam for my drivers licence. I'm not sure why I put it off for so long, because it was easy. Easy Peasy. Although I did fuck up one question, but I blame trick wording and a red light. I knew I'd have issues with the 'you are the blue car' when the blue car was not the car directly in front of me.

I also stepped it up by walking 6175. Woohoo! Getting closer to the 10k minimum. I think I will struggle with the Saturday and Sunday goals, but maybe if I go for a walk round the block a couple of times that should help.

I broke the 5000.

The 5000 steps mark that is. Yesterday I did 5829 steps. Halfway to the minimum. Fingers crossed I do more today and tomorrow. Although, tomorrow is my last day of working at my current job and I am going for a few drinks* with some co-workers and friends at 5.... hmmm.

Maybe tomorrow when I start drinking I should take the pedometer off and store it safely in my bag.....

*Whenever I say a few drinks, a few quiets, lets just have one, I always end up horrendusly drunk and the Pandyr has to pick up The Cure** the next day for me.

** The Cure - McDonalds cheeseburger, hot fries and a nice cold watered down post mix coke. Or just a coke in a can.

ugh.

I'm freaking peeling. Well my nose is. Grrr.

I only did 4500 steps yesterday. Today I plan to top it.

Lobster Girl and Mullet Man!

I am so fucking sunburnt. Damn you ozone layer and deceptive weather (cool wind + hot sun = burnt skin).

I spent about six hours at the Summer Nationals yesterday - cars, motorcross, burnouts, boats, strongmen, a wet tee comp and skanks. Oh and a tractor.

Here's the promo...

A complete automotive extravaganza!
Take a burn out competition, sound-off comp, car show, live music, boyz toyz exhibits, the Jim Beam FMX team, Miss Full Throttle bikini contest, and twelve hours of non-stop entertainment and you have a total horsepower festival!

I believe it may have been the most disorganised event I have ever been at. We missed the first burnout competition - they fucked up the timing of it - and the space allocated wasn't big enough for the crowd. We saw the second heat - which was 1/2 as long as the first so that was pretty disapointing.

The wet t-shirt competition had about 7 entries, about half of them were strippers or stay at home mums (thats pretty fucking sad really), they couldn't do the motorcross or the skydiving because of the wind, so I doubt the fireworks happened either... we ended up leaving about 5ish - but not before managing to get a good game of 'spot the mullet' and 'skank alert' in.

Oooh shiny.

So seeing as my hair was such a disaster, (pics to come I promise), I decided to revamp my blog. I think its much improved thanks to isnaini.

Evil Dye

I thought I'd be okay.

I have experience.

I've dyed my hair many times before.

I've dyed my mum's hair.

I've superblonded a friend.

I'm not afraid of colouring.

I'm not swayed that the colour on the box is going to be exactly what happens to my hair........ but I trusted you Loreal, and you ruined me.

Although, not as much as I originally thought, but I'm still not impressed. Your couleur experte (like poshing up the name is gonna help) multi-tonal natural results (ahem, bullshit), Rum Coffee flavour is neither rum or coffee, and more like red and redder. In fact, due to bad lighting, (damn you bathroom), I thought I'd gone red and Orange - like Ronald McDonald orange, but luckily under natural light its actually okay - kind of a light reddy blonde.

Just okay though, I'm not raving.

And your help email address is bull. It's been 21 hours and I'm still waiting. Not to mention your website which doesn't even cover New Zealand let alone Australia - and yet our stores are full of your products and our televisions show your ads. Odd?

Fuckers.

Dreaming

The last couple of nights I have been having the wierdest dreams. In this one I am a character in a book, and I can see the story unfolding and the horror and drama but I can't stop it, and I can't stop me from being hurt. It's really freaky.

The Pandyr thinks its time to stop reading. heh.

I also seem to jump dreams - so I'll be in the middle of something somehwere and then end up in other situation with different people. A different storyline.

It's very strange.

In other me news, I got my ears pierced yesterday. I'd been thinking for ages that I needed to even up one side - so I told a co-worker I was going and she came and got a piercing as well. Then we were naughty and had KFC for lunch. Crispy Strips, I love you.

The peircing lady was very strange. When I asked if she did them, her husband came out of nowhere and said 'she's the best in town, been piercing for over 25 years'.

We went out the back of this dodgy little shop while she gloved up etc. She asked me where I got my other piercings and insisted I must have got my first ones at her shop* - she accepted that my others had been done in New Brighton.

* I first got my ears pierced in Australia when I was about eight - so unless her shop is one of the magical ones that can move cities and streets by a flick of a button - then I don't think so lady. On the plus side she must of thought I was in my mid twenties, so I guess that was a bonus :)

This is scarily accurate :)

You Are Likely an Only Child

At your darkest moments, you feel frustrated.
At work and school, you do best when you're organizing.
When you love someone, you tend to worry about them.

In friendship, you are emotional and sympathetic.
Your ideal careers are: radio announcer, finance, teaching, ministry, and management.
You will leave your mark on the world with organizational leadership, maybe as the author of self-help books.

Woooooh!

Nothing can beat the feeling of handing in your resignation. I think my boss might have been a little shocked, but its time. I'm tired of putting up with horrible behaviour from one person who ruins the entire day for our team, I'm tired of not having goals or targets, (we only get bonuses if the entire dept makes budget whereas other teams get targets and if they reach them they recieve bonuses), and I'm tired of not feeling challenged and being told its my fault if I am bored at work - not the job itself and that I need more outside interests.

Actually I think that comment fucked me off the most.

I've been asked to join a company I used to work for years ago, in a different position, and with a shitload more money. I couldn't just quit and have no job, I need that safety net! So I start there in a couple of weeks.

Next week at work should be interesting - the OB isn't at work this week, but she's back next week and no doubt will find out that I am leaving. I timed it quite well though, she's not there in my last week WOOHOO!

I haven't been focused on the gym or my weight in a while now, hopefully this move will help me refocus and get my ass into gear.

Wholly shit I'm scared. Sometimes I think it would be worth going to Japan just to check out their TV Shows. Posted by Picasa
